Temporal pattern of microcracking in impact-damaged porous SiC ceramics

Temporal characteristics of the localized damage development initiated by a short-time impact pointed loading SiC ceramics which is widely applied as protective material against shock action upon engineering constructions and people were investigated. The statistics crack nucleation relaxation was studied with methods acoustic emission electromagnetic emission, correspondingly. It shown that length intervals between microcrack nucleations follows power law specific to cooperative phenomena. time distribution decaying electric charges appear on impact-induced edges annihilate after passage wave was, in contrast, linear. temporal pattern permitted identifying two sets newly formed damages are tiny cracks grain bulk those interconnect grains.
